The Netherlands are I guess a country in shock now right-wing politician Pim Fortuyn has been shot .
If he was shot for his political ideas it's bad for democracy and come on you have to be crazy to do something like that... but for now we can only assume that this was the reason for the assasination...... this however reminds me of the murder of Rabin... sometimes things are different as they seem.
However apart from the personal drama it's also the death of innocence... something that happened in Belgium maybe with the murder of Andre Cools but maybe even more happened with the murder of Kennedy and Rabin.
Mind i don't approve this killing but he was a person who according to me inspired hatred and well as the saying goes.....

Yes, but isn't it cynical in a way? These last months we've constantly heard how "deeply tragical" the way the Dutch had voted ("are we going fascist or not?" etc.) and now it's "deeply tragical" that the Evil Not So Evil Guy has been murdered.
Wim Kok's painful gaffe: "Als je dit hoort, schiet er heel wat door je hoofd."
Belgian prime minister Guy Verhofstadt put it nicely: "This is not something that should happen in a democracy regardless of what ideas a politician might have."
yeah well the people who shot rabin are now in power in israel, so you can at least expect a left-wing government in holland for a while yet!
And to say that Kennedy was Fortuyn's idol.
I'm curious to know what the motives of the killer were. There are lots of possibilities.
As sad as this murder was, it's even sadder that right now people are trying to use his death to get more votes for the Fortuyn party.
I was alarmed when I heard about it last night. I agree with our prime minister: these kind of things shouldn't happen in a democracy. I wonder whether the attack was indeed political and if it was, who's behind it?
I can't believe people are still very determined to vote for Pim although he's dead. How bizar...i think there is going to be a left wing government and a right wing population. How do you explain that.
